Cancer Health and Wellbeing Day

Some of the audience of 140 invited guests listen to a talk on nutrition and healthy eating.Farnborough Lions Club attended the joint North East Hampshire & Farnham Clinical Commissioning Group, Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust and Macmillan Cancer Support Cancer Health & Wellbeing Day at the Prince's Hall, Aldershot to promote the Lions Message in a Bottle project.

We also had the pleasure of part sponsoring the event which gave a wide range of advice and information to 100 invited cancer patients from the Rushmoor and surrounding area.

The day comprised of interesting and Farnborough Lions Message in a Bottle Stand at the Cancer Health and Wellbeing Dayinformative talks about the effects of cancer on sufferers and helped deal with strategies for coping, fatigue management, physical activity and cancer, the role of the GP, eating well and feeling good and the psychological impact of a cancer diagnosis and treatment. Also available were complemantary  therapies and mini head, neck, hand and arm massages together with eyebrow shaping lashes and wig support.

A further 25  support organisations varying between the Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust to Rushmoor Council together with charities directly supporting cancer care such as Macmillan Cancer Support, Live  Your Life After Cancer (LYLAC), Nepali Cancer Ambassadors, Postate Cancer UK, Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice Care, Rushmoor Voluntary Services, TalkPlus and The Princess Royal Trust for Carers attended with information stands to give advice and information.  

This was a very worthwhile information day for those recovering after cancer treatment, their families and carers. The joint North East Hampshire and Farnham CCG have further health and wellbeing days planned for the future.
